ENCOUNTER

Petit H - HERMES

In 2021, Hermès' petit h workshop created, with the collaboration of the craftsmen potters from the Ravel manufacture, a series of unique objects sold exclusively within Hermès stores.

Combining, adjusting, assembling things that do not resemble each other, marrying shapes and materials that do not normally go together, these are the detours of the method followed by the workshop. Like the Petit h objects, these subtly crafted earthenware pottery pieces radiate the creative detours they have taken.

DEBEAULIEU

Debeaulieu, the artist florist, enhances bouquets of flowers. Their arrangements are incredible, whether in bouquet vases or large pots. During the Villa Noailles festivals, they wonderfully stage vases.

EMILE KIRSCH

Emile Kirsch, a vibrant photographer, excels in playing with fluorescents, fades, and blurs. His work is full of modernity and romance.
Thus, this encounter between the florist, the ceramist, and the photographer resulted in a series of fresh and surprising snapshots.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

CHRISTIAN LACROIX

In April 2015, while staying at the Poterie Ravel in Aubagne, Mr. Christian Lacroix designed and signed a collection of unique ceramics, "Mythology".

He first wanted to work on the emblematic shapes of the Factory, then on a few other pieces specially created and crafted hand in hand with our potter Thierry Lachaume.

Whether matte or glossy enamel, incisions or layering techniques, slips, brushes, or droppers, Christian Lacroix experimented with all possibilities, improvisations, and experiences to instinctively rediscover traditional techniques and express his own cosmogony, the universe of Mediterranean mythologies dear to him where the Sun sometimes darkens over the heroes and heroines of the South, while the Moon shines brightly with a constellation of benevolent stars.

“I have often said how symbolic my astrological sky from Arles seems to me. Taurus with Leo rising, Venus and the Sun, earth and fire... clay and kiln... Terra cotta, pottery, and ceramics thus seem to be inscribed in my deep genes.”

GERARD TRAQUANDI

For several years, Gérard Traquandi, a painter, sculptor, and photographer, has honored us with his episodic residency.

When he comes to our workshops to create his monumental jars and magnificent murals, he teaches us to challenge our craft codes.

"I have found here a beautiful place full of history, but above all, workers of great skill, accompanied by genuine kindness."

INDIA MAHDAVI

India Mahdavi has an approach to ceramics that we simply adore. She describes it very aptly as the most sensual material: "Its warm or cold qualities, its masculine or feminine aspect, its classicism or modernity... an infinite nobility, it is our earth."

For her first residency, India created unique pieces by drawing with enamel on tube vases, turned by Thierry Lachaume, our potter. She also designed the "Marble" collection, vases for bouquets with spheres, either in solid or multicolor.

The Marble collection and the limited series created by India Mahdavi are on sale in her showroom - 3 rue las Cases 75006 PARIS.

MATTHIEU COSSE

Matthieu Cossé is a designer born in 1983 in Paris, where he lives and works. He has had the opportunity to exhibit his work at the Quadrilatère in Beauvais, the Albert Chanot Center in Clamart, Mains d’œuvre in Saint-Ouen, the Capucins Center in Embrun, and the Design Parade in Toulon.

The pieces made by Matthieu are for sale at our Manufacture.

CLAIRE BASLER

Claire Basler is a rare woman and artist. Her residence at the Pottery began one very hot summer. She was looking for a maker of large vases to create Barbotine-style decors, naturally with plants.

Claire embodies the romantic world of flowers and trees. She can paint them on any surface with incomparable mastery. Delicate and effective, she transports you to her magical world.

Her showroom is the Chateau de Beauvoir, a unique place! All the walls display her incredible work. She is fearless, creating paintings of all sizes, vases, and even plates.

She created a unique collection of 100 different plates for an English manor at our place.

PIERRE MARIE AGIN

Pierre Marie is a designer, artist, and decorator. Met through the villa Noailles in 2018, Pierre Marie, by working on the assembly of basins and vases to create new shapes, once again proved his intelligence with forms. He chose and had elements made of clay by potters, altering them very slightly. The bold and precise stacking perfectly fit into his enchanting and lush universe. A gentle, surprising encounter that leaves us with nothing but beautiful memories.

ROBERT RUSH

Born in 1978 in the United Kingdom, he studied at the prestigious Central St Martins and the Royal Academy. He lives in London where he opened an artists' residence and established the "Mud Museum" project; a museum of earth, or rather contemporary ceramics.

Among others, he has exhibited at Rod Barton Gallery (London), Transition Gallery (London), Rowing Projects (London), and Leclere Mdv (Marseille).

Contrary to the current world - and the art world in particular - a production linked to local tradition is not tied to the idea of progress at all costs. Embracing it means adopting a humble view on the transmission of knowledge. Humility indeed characterizes the practice of artists who, like Robert Rush, move away from major capitals to reconnect with a global history of humanity, before it began to think in terms of advancements and improvements.

Robert Rush and Ravel represent a dialogue between the vernacular and the contemporary; they embody the coexistence and humility towards pre-existing forms. Charlotte Cosson & Emmanuelle Luciani / Art historians & curators.

FILIPE JARDIM

Filipe Jardim specializes in fashion and travel illustration, spending half of the year in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro and the rest traveling around the world.
Filipe first gained recognition when he was invited to produce the Louis Vuitton Rio de Janeiro Travel Book. This beautifully produced book was the perfect showcase for his work and led to further commissions for Hermès and Issa.
In 2019, he showed up at the Pottery with all his smile, good humor, and talent as a colorist. He wanted to try his hand at ceramics. He created beautiful large dishes, full of sunshine and joy. A rare man without pretense, with an exotic and unique human sense.
