The history Ravel

1837 - 2017 : 180 years !

Founded in 1837, Poterie Ravel is one of the oldest ceramics makers in France. This family business has been led by five generations in succession, who have built up an authentic and rare expertise in the heart of Provence, in Aubagne.

From preparing the clay to turning the pots and making moulds, the entire production process takes place on site. All the work is carried out by hand. In the workshops, our skilled artisans make pots ranging from 10cm to a metre high, as well as tableware, jugs, dishes and other decorative objects in terracotta.

The style, design and thickness of Ravel pots make them beautiful additions to gardens, courtyards, patios and interiors.

Their finish and firing give them a superlative quality, colour and texture.

Poterie Ravel is known for the colour and texture of its terracotta, as well as its traditional craftsmanship and distinctive designs, steeped in its heritage as a centre of Provencal expertise. It also represents the name of a family that has been perpetuating traditional pottery skills in Aubagne for five generations. Last but not least, it is a brand, one that is constantly innovating and progressing in the field of creativity and design, to ensure this ancient craft secures its place in the future.

From extracting the clay to firing it, Poterie Ravel handles every stage of production at its clay pit and two workshops, leaving its unique mark on its pots, vases and other objects which, whether small or monumental, celebrate the union between the skilled hand and the expert eye. The style, shape and thickness of its products make them key decorative elements in gardens, on patios, indoors and in public spaces.

For 180 years, Poterie Ravel, a “Living Heritage Company”, has been helping to sustain the French tradition of the ornamental garden.
